Can I get service at my house?
We are installing our all-fiber optic network in several Indiana communities. To get the latest info about availability at your address, just give us a call at 1-877-407-3224.

Will my computer work with this service?
Any computer with a Network Interface Card (NIC) for connecting to an Ethernet network should be able to connect to the internet through Cinergy MetroNet. Because of this, there are not true minimum processor or speed requirements for connecting. Please note though, that your internet experience will be enhanced if your computer meets at least the minimum requirements for the content you choose to view. (e.g., streaming video performance will be much better on a newer computer with a fast processor than on a desktop tower purchased in 1996.)

Because of this, we recommend at least:

  • Windows Users: 500 mhz Pentium III with a minimum of 256 MB of RAM
  • Macintosh Users: G3 processor with at least 192 MB of RAM
Operating systems supported include Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS 9, and Mac OS X. Other operating systems may work, but are not officially supported.

Do I need special equipment?
Your computer will need a Network Interface Card (NIC) to connect through Cinergy MetroNet Internet Services. If your computer has an Ethernet port (a jack that looks similar to a phone jack, but is wider, for Cat-5 cable) you should be able to connect. If your computer does not have a NIC installed, we can install one for you at a low cost.

No modem is necessary to connect. You may wish to install a router to allow for connecting multiple computers or to establish a wireless network in your home, but for a single connection in a fixed location a router is not essential. We will install one Ethernet port in your home when service is established to allow you to connect directly.

Do I have to install new software?
Most computers sold new in the last five years or so have all the software necessary to connect through Cinergy MetroNet services pre-installed. However, if your computer lacks a Network Interface Card (NIC) you will need a card and will likely need software drivers for it installed. We offer NIC installation for a low price, including the software drivers, so if you aren't sure your computer has everything it needs, give us a call and we'll help you determine if it's ready to connect.

What about security?
High-speed internet connections do call for a level of security above that of dialup, but most newer operating systems include built-in firewall protection. You may need to configure your system to ensure it carries the proper level of protection, and we can help with that.

Also, most routers include a level of firewall protection, so please make sure you follow the instructions included with your router to set it up securely.

Should I have a second phone line for this service?
We love it when people ask this! Because the answer is "NO." Since our connections are direct to our all-fiber network, your phone lines no longer have anything to do with your internet connectivity. Not only do you NOT need an extra phone line - you don't use a phone line to connect at all!
